Tiruchendur Murugan Temple

Thoothukudi

A famous seaside temple dedicated to Lord Murugan on the coast of the Bay of Bengal. It is believed to be the place where Murugan defeated the demon Surapadman. Unlike most Murugan temples located on hills, Tiruchendur stands beside the sea, making it one of the most unique pilgrimage sites in Tamil Nadu.

Best Time to Visit

October to February for pleasant weather. Early morning (5:00 AM to 7:00 AM) for peaceful darshan.

Local Tip

💡 Visit the Nazhikinaru sacred freshwater well near the temple after the sea bath. Carry a towel and extra clothes because the sea breeze can leave you damp. Weekday mornings usually have shorter queues.

Heads Up

⚠️ ❌ Avoid visiting between April and June afternoons due to intense heat and humidity. ❌ Avoid festival days if you prefer a quiet darshan experience. ❌ Avoid carrying valuables to the beach area.
